{"id":159240,"date":"2010-01-09T17:21:18","date_gmt":"2010-01-09T22:21:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.skyscrapercity.com\/showthread.php?t=1041855"},"modified":"2010-01-09T17:21:18","modified_gmt":"2010-01-09T22:21:18","slug":"billionaire-investor-grows-deeply-concerned-about-china","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/159240","title":{"rendered":"Billionaire Investor Grows Deeply Concerned About China"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><b>Billionaire Investor Grows Deeply Concerned About China<\/b><br \/>\nPublished: <b>Friday, 8 Jan 2010<\/b> | 6:08 PM ET Text Size <br \/>\nBy: Lee Brodie<br \/>\nProducer<\/p>\n<p>\nA widely followed billionaire investor is raising serious concerns about China and it appears more people are taking notice.<\/p>\n<p>In Friday\u0092s New York Times the paper reiterated something billionaire hedge fund manager Jim Chanos first told the Fast Money desk, on the December 15th Halftime Report \u0096 <b>that China has the potential to be as much of a watershed event for world markets as subprime was a few years back.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A celebrated short-seller, Chanos isn\u0092t the first person to turn bearish on China, but his commentary is widely followed because he has a knack for spotting looming problems, including Enron, Tyco, and the housing crisis.<\/p>\n<p><b>And speaking of housing, Chanos thinks China\u0092s troubles will stem from a real estate crisis \u0096 much like our own troubles did.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>\u0094(China) is a surging real estate sector buoyed by a flood of speculative capital,\u0094 he says. \u0093It looks like Dubai times 1,000 \u0097 or worse!\u0094 <br \/>\n<\/b><br \/>\n<b>And to make matters that much more ominous, he feels Americans are investing in China without really grasping how the government works.<br \/>\n<\/b><br \/>\n\u0093We just don\u0092t believe the GDP numbers. We think they\u0092re massively inflated by under-depreciating a very shaky capital-asset base.\u0094<\/p>\n<p>All these elements have the trappings of a bubble, Chanos says, and one which may soon burst. If and when that happens, Chanos expects companies will fail.
