{"id":159955,"date":"2010-01-09T22:29:34","date_gmt":"2010-01-10T03:29:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.skyscrapercity.com\/showthread.php?t=1042011"},"modified":"2010-01-09T22:29:34","modified_gmt":"2010-01-10T03:29:34","slug":"medium-and-long-distance-train-seat-plans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/159955","title":{"rendered":"Medium and long-distance train seat plans"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>In medium and long-distance trains, where people are not supposed to travel standing on aisles, there are three major set arrangements: aligned, facing and compartment seats:<\/p>\n<p><b>Aligned seats<\/b>:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.skyscrapercity.com\/projects\/beijing-tianjin\/\" ><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.railway-technology.com\/projects\/beijing-tianjin\/images\/4-velaro-train.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>(from rail-technology.com)<\/p>\n<p><b>Facing seats<\/b>:<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i37.photobucket.com\/albums\/e62\/daniellecherney\/Lucca\/Lucca201.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n(from daniellecherney on photobucket)<\/p>\n<p><b>Compartments<\/b><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/13\/15446993_350f715d79.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3135\/3011628021_14813ccbe6.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n(from mararie on flickr)<\/p>\n<p>What are your opinion in these different arrangements?<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d point out this pros\/cons:<\/p>\n<p><i>Aligned seats<\/i><br \/>\n&#8211; Best overall arrangement for solo\/couple travellers<br \/>\n&#8211; Allows for relative privacy<br \/>\n&#8211; Allows for trays to be installed<br \/>\n&#8211; Don&#8217;t have many luggage space under the seats<\/p>\n<p><i>Facing seats<\/i><br \/>\n&#8211; Create embarassment when you have to ride with a strange in front of you for hours<br \/>\n&#8211; Maximize luggage space under the seats<br \/>\n&#8211; Better for families\/groups<br \/>\n&#8211; When possible to compare, usually facing seats cars are more dirty and noisy.<\/p>\n<p><i>Compartments<\/i><br \/>\n&#8211; Good for privacy if you are travelling with acquaintances and only with tehm<br \/>\n&#8211; Intimidating if you have to share the compartment with strangers<br \/>\n&#8211; Makes it easier for crimes\/abuse to be commited onboard out of sight of conductors\/fellow passengers<\/p>\n<p>I myself would vow for majority of seats in any given train be arranged airplane-like, e.g., aligned (you face the back seat of the front row), some seats to be facing and a few compartments that can be booked only wholly (e.g., without putting strangers in the same compartment).<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In medium and long-distance trains, where people are not supposed to travel standing on aisles, there are three major set arrangements: aligned, facing and compartment seats: Aligned seats: (from rail-technology.com) Facing seats: (from daniellecherney on photobucket) Compartments (from mararie on flickr) What are your opinion in these different arrangements?
