{"id":161153,"date":"2010-01-10T06:44:16","date_gmt":"2010-01-10T11:44:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.skyscrapercity.com\/showthread.php?t=1042195"},"modified":"2010-01-10T06:44:16","modified_gmt":"2010-01-10T11:44:16","slug":"sudan-seeks-to-buy-natural-gas-from-egypt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/161153","title":{"rendered":"Sudan seeks to buy natural gas from Egypt"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><b><font size=\"2\">Sudan seeks to buy natural gas from Egypt<\/font><\/b><br \/>\nSunday 10 January 2010 06:30.<br \/>\n\tPrinter-Friendly version  Comments&#8230;  <\/p>\n<p>January 9, 2010 (KHARTOUM) \u0096 <b>Egypt has received a formal request from Sudan to ink a gas supply deal, according to a newspaper report.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Egyptian petroleum minister Sameh Fahmy told the Al-Youm Al-Sabe\u0092 online news portal that his government is considering supplying its southern neighbor with natural gas to meet its growing energy demand.<\/p>\n<p><b>Fahmy suggested that Sudan\u0092s interest came after the Egyptian natural gas pipeline extended to reach Aswan city close to the Southern borders.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>However, Cairo is still considering whether or not to heed to the request in light of a decision it took last year not to sign any new gas export contracts until 2010 in order to meet rising local demand.<\/p>\n<p>The country\u0092s proven natural gas reserves rose to around 77.2 trillion cubic feet in the 2008\/09 fiscal year.<\/p>\n<p>Egypt is a significant natural gas exporter and currently exports 200-250 million cfd of natural gas to Jordan, its main export market, according to Egypt\u0092s state-owned Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS).<\/p>\n<p>Oil producing Sudan\u0092s rising energy demand has pushed it to consider importing electricity from neighboring countries including Ethiopia as well as creating wind energy farms.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sudan seeks to buy natural gas from Egypt Sunday 10 January 2010 06:30.
