Volkswagen of America’s boss Stefan Jacoby says that his company\u00a0is aiming to more than double its sales in the United States within the next three to four years,<\/p>\n

“We will sell 400,000 to 450,000 vehicles in 2012-2013,” Jacoby said at an event ahead of the Detroit Auto Show.<\/p>\n

The German automaker sold 213,454 vehicles in the U.S. in 2009, down 4 percent from the previous year. The entire Volkswagen Group, including luxury brand Audi, sold 297,537 vehicles in the U.S. in 2009, down 5 percent from 2008 when it sold\u00a0313,581.<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Jacoby said there is a strong possibility for Volkswagen’s U.S. business to become profitable in three years.<\/p>\n

“We are a little bit more optimistic now than we were a few months ago,” he said.<\/p>\n
