The CIA<\/a> had 25 agents in Germany after the September 11
\nattacks and planned to \u201crendition\u201d illegally al-Qaeda
\nsuspects without informing the German government<\/a>, Spiegel magazine
\nreported Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was about grabbing people without the Germans knowing
\nabout it,\u201d the German weekly magazine cited an unnamed former CIA<\/a>
\nagent as saying. \u201cWe were planning stuff that was totally
\nillegal.\u201d<\/p>\n

The plan went so far that other parts of the Central Intelligence
\nAgency were in the loop, but in the end it was scrapped because of
\nobjections by the agency\u2019s German section, Spiegel cited its
\nsource as saying.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe said \u2018no\u2019 because we were of the opinion that
\nyou just couldn\u2019t do a thing like that in a friendly country
\nwhere there were so many US<\/a> soldiers based,\u201d the source is cited
\nas saying.<\/p>\n
