The US<\/a> military commander for the Middle East and the
\nGulf region has confirmed that the United States has developed
\ncontingency plans to deal with Iran<\/a>\u2019s nuclear facilities.<\/p>\n

Gen David Petraeus, head of Central Command or Centcom,
\ndid not elaborate on the plans, but said the military has considered
\nthe impacts of any action taken there.<\/p>\n

Asked about the vulnerability of Iran<\/a>\u2019s nuclear installations,
\nhe told CNN: \u201cWell, they certainly can be bombed. The level of
\neffect would vary with who it is that carries it out, what ordnance
\nthey have, and what capability they can bring to bear.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cIt would be almost literally irresponsible if
\nCentcom were not to have been thinking about the various \u2018what
\nifs\u2019 and to make plans for a whole variety of different
\ncontingencies.\u201d<\/p>\n
