Afghanistan<\/a> and Iraq<\/a> on Wednesday joined a chorus of
\nprotest over a new US<\/a> watchlist targeting visitors from 14 countries,
\ndescribing the measure as ineffective and
\n\u201ccounterproductive.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it is unfair,\u201d said Samir
\nSumadaie, Iraq<\/a>\u2019s ambassador to the United States. \u201cAnd more
\nimportant than being fair or unfair is whether it is actually going to
\nwork.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you treat the entire populations of so many countries as
\nsuspects with one blanket decision it is counterproductive,\u201d he
\nsaid. \u201cIt tends to alienate people and its very, very doubtful
\nthat it will produce any significant increase in the security of air
\ntravelers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Said Jawad, Afghanistan<\/a>\u2019s ambassador to the United States, echoed those concerns.<\/p>\n
