Ed Koch, the former mayor of New York City, told Fox News\u2019
\nNeil Cavuto on Thursday that \u201chundreds of millions\u201d of
\nMuslims are terrorists.<\/p>\n

Taking up the now-standard conservative political talking point, in
\nthe wake of the Christmas Day bombing attempt, that political
\ncorrectness prevents the US<\/a> from identifying Muslim terrorists as such,
\nKoch said:<\/p>\n

\n

We\u2019re afraid of calling them Muslim, Islamist
\nterrorists. We\u2019ll call them anything but. Because we don\u2019t
\nwant to alienate Muslim countries. That\u2019s ridiculous. Of course
\nthe vast majority of Muslims \u2014 there are a billion, four hundred
\nmillion \u2014 are not terrorists, but there are hundreds of millions
\nwho are. They want to kill every Christian, every Jew, every Hindu who
\nwon\u2019t convert. And we ought to put it on the table.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Host Neil Cavuto did not attempt to correct or even question Koch\u2019s claim.<\/p>\n

Joshua Holland at AlertNet<\/a>
\ngives Koch \u201cthe benefit of the doubt\u201d and assumes Koch
\nmeant to say \u201chundreds of thousands\u201d of Muslim terrorists.
\nEven so, Holland argues, that suggests Muslim terrorists aren\u2019t
\ndoing their job very well.<\/p>\n

\u201cGiven that there were a total of around 9,000 fatalities
\nworldwide resulting from Islamic terrorism<\/a> in 2008 (the most recent
\nyear for which data is available), those hundreds of thousands must
\nhave been pretty damn incompetent,\u201d he quips.<\/p>\n

Koch was a Democratic member of Congress in the 1960s and 1970s, and
\nwas the Democratic mayor of New York for much of the 1980s. But in
\nrecent years he has taken to endorsing Republican candidates, including
\nendorsing George W. Bush for president in 2004, although he endorsed
\nBarack Obama<\/a> in the general election in 2008. In his interview with
\nCavuto, Koch said he would fire National Counterterrorism Center
\nDirector Michael Leiter over the Christmas Day bomb attempt.<\/p>\n
