The defence came after one outspoken MP  branded the \u201cserial inaccuracy\u201d of the agency\u2019s  forecasts a \u201cscandal\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>But the  forecaster has  pointed out its five-day  weather predictions  were being used to help  deal with the prolonged  freeze.
