{"id":172266,"date":"2010-01-12T21:46:44","date_gmt":"2010-01-13T02:46:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jamati.com\/online\/?p=9137"},"modified":"2010-01-12T21:46:44","modified_gmt":"2010-01-13T02:46:44","slug":"africans-nominated-in-the-41st-naacp-image-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/172266","title":{"rendered":"Africans nominated in the 41st NAACP Image Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The NAACP Image awards celebrate the outstanding achievements and performances of people of color in the arts (motion picture, television, recording, and literature), as well as those<br \/>\nindividuals or groups who promote social justice through their creative endeavors.<\/p>\n<p><div id=\"attachment_9141\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\" style=\"width: 270px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jamati.com\/online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/Victor-Sila.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9141\" title=\"Victor Sila\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jamati.com\/online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/Victor-Sila.jpg\" alt=\"Victor Sila\" width=\"260\" height=\"390\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Victor Sila<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span id=\"more-9137\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>There are several African nominees in the mix this year who we can honestly say truly deserve it.\u00a0 Gabourey Sidibe is having an astounding year with her first film, &#8216;<em>Precious<\/em>&#8216;, which brought many to tears as they experienced the horrors of abuse with her character.\u00a0 Sila and the Afrofunk Experience have been nominated for their song, <em>&#8216;Black President&#8217;<\/em>, putting them in\u00a0a well-deserved limelight.\u00a0 Oumou Sangare&#8217;s song, <em>Seya<\/em>, has also been nominated in the Outstanding World Music Album category.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Farai Chideya, the African-American\/Zimbabwean author is nominated for Outstanding Literary Work &#8211; Debut Author for her novel, &#8216;Kiss <em>the Sky: A Novel&#8217;<\/em>, which is currently on the Essence book list.<\/p>\n<p>The complete list of African nominees are listed below:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8211; Idris Elba \u2013 &#8220;<em>Obsessed<\/em>&#8221; (Screen Gems)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture<br \/>\n<\/strong>&#8211; Gabourey Sidibe \u2013 &#8220;Precious: Based on the Novel &#8220;<em>Push<\/em>&#8221; by Sapphire&#8221; (Lionsgate)<br \/>\n&#8211; Sophie Okonedo \u2013 &#8220;<em>Skin<\/em>&#8221; (Jour De Fete Films)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture<br \/>\n<\/strong>&#8211; Chiwetel Ejiofor \u2013 &#8220;<em>2012<\/em>&#8221; (Columbia Pictures)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Outstanding World Music Album<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8211; &#8220;<em>Black President<\/em>&#8221; \u2013 Sila and the Afrofunk Experience (Visila Records)<br \/>\n&#8211; &#8220;<em>ReCreation<\/em>&#8221; \u2013 Zap Mama (Heads Up International\/Concord Music Group)<br \/>\n&#8211; &#8220;<em>Seya<\/em>&#8221; \u2013 Oumou Sangare (Nonesuch\/World Circuit)<br \/>\nOutstanding Literary Work \u2013 Debut Author<br \/>\n&#8211; &#8220;<em>Kiss the Sky: A Novel<\/em>&#8221; \u2013 Farai Chideya (Atria Books)<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to all of them.
