He&#8217;s the controversial President of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, whose opposition to cap-and-trade lead to a mass exodus of key and powerful members, <a href=\"http:\/\/greenenergyreporter.com\/2009\/10\/pge-exelon-pnm-turn-their-back-on-corporate-americas-man-in-washington\/\" >including Pacific Gas and Electric and Exelon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Donahue is stubborn. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uschamber.com\/press\/speeches\/2010\/100112_sab\" >In a speech<\/a> yesterday, outlining the Chamber&#8217;s 2010 political strategy, he said that the <a href=\"http:\/\/greenenergyreporter.com\/2009\/12\/coming-courtesey-of-uncle-sam-a-carbon-divident-check\/\" >various renewable energy legislation<\/a> making their way through the Senate would actually eliminate jobs.<span id=\"more-5524\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Donahue said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>We&#8217;ll also support strong climate change policy, both domestic legislation and a global agreement.\u00a0 But the bill passed by the House last year would tie economic activity in knots and eliminate jobs from one end of the country to another.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Watch:<\/p>\n<p><object classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" width=\"425\" height=\"344\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowScriptAccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/FctWcNaT7Q4&amp;color1=0xb1b1b1&amp;color2=0xcfcfcf&amp;hl=en_US&amp;feature=player_embedded&amp;fs=1\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><embed type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"425\" height=\"344\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/FctWcNaT7Q4&amp;color1=0xb1b1b1&amp;color2=0xcfcfcf&amp;hl=en_US&amp;feature=player_embedded&amp;fs=1\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p>Media Matters for America, a progressive media watchdog in Washington, could not let these latest claim pass without a rebuttal.<\/p>\n<p>And so in an <a href=\"http:\/\/mediamattersaction.org\/factcheck\/201001120002\" >effective fact check<\/a>, Media Matters &#8212; citing a recent study from the University of California\u00a0Berkeley &#8212; found that pollution reduction and energy efficiency legislation will actually create up to 1.9 million jobs and would add $111 billion to the U.S. Gross Domestic Product. It also notes that every state will gain jobs from investment in clean energy technologies.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/feeds.feedburner.com\/~r\/GreenEnergyReporter\/~4\/x-v2PoK93us\" height=\"1\" width=\"1\"\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tom Donahue, remember him?
