In recent months, she devoted her time to helping to secure marriage rights for same sex couples. She will be handed the Vito Russo Award for her gay rights work during a ceremony in New York City in March.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.popcrunch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/manolo-blahnik-slams-sex-and-the-city-500x632.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"manolo-blahnik-slams-sex-and-the-city\" width=\"500\" height=\"632\" class=\"alignright size-large wp-image-70257\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-88851\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Vito Russo Award is named after a founding member of gay rights organization the Gay &#038; Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), and presented to someone who has made <em>\u201ca significant difference in promoting equal rights for our community.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cCynthia Nixon has been a vocal and visible advocate who has transformed cultural attitudes about our community,\u201d <\/em>GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios said this week. <em>\u201cShe is a perfect example of how sharing your personal story and speaking out for marriage equality can inspire change among fair-minded Americans.
