Tehran on Monday dismissed as thoughtless comments by a
\ntop US<\/a> general that Iran<\/a>\u2019s atomic sites could be attacked if the
\nnuclear issue remains unsolved, the official IRNA news agency reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis comments are thoughtless and it is better that any
\nstatement made in this regard take a constructive approach,\u201d
\nforeign ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast was quoted as saying.<\/p>\n

General David Petraeus, head of US<\/a> Central Command (CENTCOM) that
\noversees the Middle East, told CNN on Sunday that Iran<\/a>\u2019s nuclear
\nfacilities \u201ccertainly can be bombed,\u201d even though they are
\nreported to be heavily fortified.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe level of effect would vary with who it is that carries it
\nout, what ordnance they have, and what capability they can bring to
\nbear,\u201d Petraeus added.<\/p>\n
