After a recent attempted terrorist attack set off a
\ndebate about full-body X-rays at airports, a new McClatchy-Ipsos poll
\nfinds that Americans lean more toward giving up some of their liberty
\nin exchange for more safety.<\/p>\n

The survey found 51 percent of Americans agreeing that \u201cit is
\nnecessary to give up some civil liberties in order to make the country
\nsafe from terrorism.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the same time, 36 percent agreed that \u201csome of the
\ngovernment\u2019s proposals will go too far in restricting the
\npublic\u2019s civil liberties.\u201d<\/p>\n

The rest were undecided or said their opinions would depend on circumstances.<\/p>\n
