Cass Sunstein is President
\nObama\u2019s Harvard Law School friend, and recently appointed
\nAdministrator of the White House Office of Information and Regulatory
\nAffairs.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a recent scholarly article, he and coauthor Adrian Vermeule take
\nup the question of \u201cConspiracy Theories: Causes and Cures.\u201d
\n(J. Political Philosophy, 7 (2009), 202-227). This is a man with the
\npresident\u2019s ear. This is a man who would process information and
\nregulate things. What does he here propose?<\/p>\n

[W]e
\nsuggest a distinctive tactic for breaking up the hard core of
\nextremists who supply conspiracy theories: cognitive infiltration of
\nextremist groups, whereby government agents or their allies (acting
\neither virtually or in real space, and either openly or anonymously)
\nwill undermine the crippled epistemology of believers by planting
\ndoubts about the theories and stylized facts that circulate within such
\ngroups, thereby introducing beneficial cognitive diversity. (Page 219.)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Read this paragraph again. Unpack it. Work your way through the
\nlanguage and the intent. Imagine the application. What do we learn?<\/p>\n
