More than 100,000 feared dead in Haiti quake, officials say<\/p>\n

Port-au-Prince, Haiti (CNN)<\/strong> \u2014 Officials fear more than 100,000 people have died as a result of Tuesday\u2019s 7.0-magnitude earthquake in Haiti.<\/p>\n

The capital, Port-au-Prince, \u201cis flattened,\u201d said
\nHaiti\u2019s consul general to the U.N., Felix Augustin, who said he
\nbelieved more than 100,000 people were dead. Hospitals are gone, and
\nmedical supplies and heavy equipment are desperately needed, he said.<\/p>\n

The country\u2019s prime minister said the death toll could be in the hundreds of thousands.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope that is not true, because I hope the people had the
\ntime to get out,\u201d Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive told CNN.<\/p>\n
