Former FBI agent Southers says government should pay attention to political Americans<\/p>\n

President Obama\u2019s nominee to head the TSA and
\nboss the naked body scanners now being installed at airports across the
\ncountry says that white Christian \u201canti-government\u201d types
\nwill be the primary target of suspicion for authorities.<\/p>\n

Former FBI agent Erroll Southers has been under
\nscrutiny following Republican efforts to block his confirmation after
\nit emerged Southers had abused his power to run a database check on his
\nex-wife\u2019s new boyfriend.<\/p>\n

Back in October, Southers told the Senate Homeland
\nSecurity and Governmental Affairs Committee and the Commerce, Science
\nand Transportation Committee, both of whom voted on his confirmation,
\nthat he carried out the search because he was concerned for his wife
\nand son. However, after the committees had approved him, Southers
\nadmitted that he had lied under oath by failing to reveal that he had
\npersonally conducted the search and had done so on more than one
\noccasion, as well as sharing the information with the police (so they
\ncould harass the target of the search, according to the Ace of Spades blog<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Given that the potential future head of the TSA has
\nabused his power in the past and then lied about it to Congress while
\nunder oath, how can we have any confidence that he will change the
\nclimate of corruption and thuggishness that pervades the TSA, as
\nstories of innocent people being terrorized and harassed continue to appear <\/a>on an almost daily basis?<\/p>\n

In a video interview posted to You Tube yesterday,
\nSouthers states the the government and the TSA has to \u201cpay
\nattention\u201d not to Muslim terrorists but to
\n\u201canti-government, anti-abortion, survivalist types\u201d who are
\n\u201cchristian identity oriented,\u201d before he links such
\nindividuals with neo-nazi white supremacists and people like Buford
\nFurrow, a former Aryan Nations member who killed one and injured three
\nduring a shooting at the Los Angeles Jewish Community Center in August
\n1999.<\/p>\n

Southers subsequently throws in Ben Smith, a spree
\nkiller who targeted members of racial and ethnic minorities in random
\ndrive-by shootings in Illinois and Indiana in July 1999.<\/p>\n

\u201cThose groups are groups that claim to be
\nextremely anti-government and christian identity oriented,\u201d added
\nSouthers.<\/p>\n

As we have exhaustively documented for years, even if
\nthere were hordes of Muslim terrorists planning to bomb airliners, the
\nfederal government is far more concerned with what politically active
\nconservative and libertarian Americans are up to.<\/p>\n

An infamous leaked report<\/a>
\ndistributed by the Missouri Information Analysis Center last year
\nlisted Ron Paul supporters, libertarians, people who display bumper
\nstickers, people who own gold, or even people who fly a U.S. flag and
\nequated them with radical race hate groups and terrorists.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 2009 Virginia Terrorism Threat Assessment,<\/a>
\nproduced by the Virginia Fusion Center, smeared anyone who is
\n\u201canti-government,\u201d \u201canti-abortion,\u201d as
\npotential terrorists, equated people who enjoy rifle shooting practice
\nand hunting with terrorists, and demonized the use of the Internet and
\nwebsites like You Tube, Fark and Slashdot as terrorist tools. The use
\nof \u201ce-protests\u201d is also talked about in the context of
\nterrorism.<\/p>\n

The document also discusses \u201cspecial interest
\ngroups\u201d who \u201cincorporate a political message\u201d in its
\nsection about domestic terrorists, which could be defined as any mildly
\npolitical organization whatsoever.<\/p>\n

These are just two of a plethora of similar police and federal government reports
\nstretching back well over a decade that identify politically active
\nAmericans as domestic terrorists and a target of domestic authorities.<\/span><\/p>\n

Unless Southers\u2019 ambitions to head up the TSA are
\nstopped, incidents of TSA thugs harassing libertarians and
\nconservatives at airports, such as the case where a Ron Paul treasurer was interrogated<\/a> for carrying cash and campaign information, will only become more prevalent. <\/span><\/div>\n
