‘The organic movement
\nshould overcome its hostility to genetically modified crops and embrace
\nthe contribution that they can make to sustainable farming, one of the
\nworld\u2019s leading agricultural scientists has told The Times. <\/font>Although
\norganic farmers are among the most implacable opponents of genetic
\nengineering, it should be accepted as legitimate, according to Gordon
\nConway, Professor of International Development at Imperial College
\nLondon and a former government adviser.<\/font><\/p>\n

In an interview with The
\nTimes, he said that the ban on organic farmers using GM crops was based
\non an excessively rigid rejection of synthetic approaches to farming
\nand a misconception that natural ways were safer and more environment-
\nfriendly than man-made ones.’<\/font><\/p>\n
