The structure is part of the research project, &#8220;Walking through the history&#8221; of the University of Perugia. The roof is designed to serve as a canopy in the center of Perugia, while producing enough energy to sustain the underground passage and the roof itself. <\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.instablogsimages.com\/images\/2010\/01\/16\/energy-roof_2_aLhYC_69.jpg\" alt=\"energy roof_2\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The orientation of the Energy Roof\u2019s west wing is optimized in relation to solar radiation, while the east wing is optimized to capture wind energy and convert it into usable electricity.
