The Open Angel Forum<\/a> is coming to Colorado and having it\u2019s first event in Boulder on 2\/3\/10.\u00a0 David Cohen \u2013 the CEO of TechStars<\/a> \u2013 has written an extensive post titled Open Angel Forum \u2013 Colorado bound!<\/a> <\/em>which includes all the background leading up to this, along with information about:<\/p>\n

  1. Attending OAFCO as an angel investor<\/a><\/li>\n
  2. Presenting at OAFCO as an entrepreneur<\/a><\/li>\n
  3. Sponsoring the event if you are a service provider<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Each event will only have 10-15 angels in attendance \u2013 all will be active investors.\u00a0 We\u2019ll have five companies presenting.\u00a0 It will be an intimate event \u2013 if you want to get a feel for the chatter check out the twitter stream on Open Angel Forum<\/a> take a look at Mark Suster\u2019s post on the Inaugural Open Angel Forum<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

    I\u2019m made angel investments in over 75 companies since 1994 and had a number of magnificent outcomes including NetGenesis (IPO), Critical Path (IPO), Harmonix (acquired by MTV), and Nutrisystems (IPO).\u00a0 Yeah \u2013 plenty of my angel investments haven\u2019t gone anywhere, but in all cases I\u2019ve had an awesome time working with entrepreneurs to create amazing new companies.<\/p>\n

    My relationship with David Cohen and TechStars has reinforced this for me as I\u2019ve seen many of the young TechStars companies raise money from angels, go on to raise money from institutional VCs, or be acquired.\u00a0 I\u2019ve also seen a renaissance in the super angel category with folks like Jeff Clavier at SoftTechVC, Chris Sacca, Dave McClure, the First Round Capital guys, Ron Conway, and David Cohen start to \u201cinstitutionalize\u201d this category.<\/p>\n

    One of my deeply held beliefs is a key part of the role of an angel investor is to help the entrepreneur \u2013 and operate in support of the entrepreneur.\u00a0 I\u2019ve always despised the \u201cpay to pitch\u201dschemes that some angel groups have (where the entrepreneur has to pay to pitch) and wrote a post titled An Angel Investor Group Move That Makes Me Vomit<\/em><\/a>. <\/em>This started a bunch of noise around this issue which Jason Calacanis<\/a> amplified \u2013 resulting in him creating the Open Angel Forum<\/a>.\u00a0 I count myself as a proud supporter of this effort and co-collaborator in OAFCO with David Cohen.<\/p>\n
