As I write this, I&#8217;m simply surrounded by the aromas of those ingredients and let me tell you, it&#8217;s truly delightful. This truly is what comfort food smells like on a cold day. <\/p>\n<p>If you are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thatsfit.ca\/tag\/detoxing\/\">detoxing <\/a>this month, you are not alone &#8212; January is one the most popular times for people to start a new nutrition regime. This often means saying goodbye to old habits and foods such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thatsfit.ca\/tag\/sugar\/\">sugar<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thatsfit.ca\/tag\/alcohol\/\">alcohol<\/a> and in many cases even red meat and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thatsfit.ca\/tag\/wheat\/\">wheat<\/a>. Even if you&#8217;re not following a specific <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thatsfit.ca\/tag\/detoxdiet\/\">detox diet<\/a>, simply eliminating certain calorie-dense, nutrient-poor refined foods and eating more fruits, veggies and whole grains is incredibly energizing and invigorating. <\/p>\n<p><a  href=\"http:\/\/www.thatsfit.ca\/2009\/02\/22\/holistic-recipe-of-the-week-roasted-beets-with-sage\/\">Beets<\/a> are definitely an item to add to your list of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thatsfit.ca\/tag\/nutrientdensefoods\/\">nutrient-dense foods<\/a> (detoxing or not). Think of them as tiny powerhouses of <a  href=\"http:\/\/www.whfoods.com\/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&amp;dbid=49\">nutrition<\/a>. Although they have the highest sugar content of all the vegetables, which is what gives them their distinct sweet taste, they are very low in calories and a source of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thatsfit.ca\/tag\/folate\/\">folate<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thatsfit.ca\/tag\/manganese\/\">manganese<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thatsfit.ca\/tag\/potassium\/\">potassium<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thatsfit.ca\/tag\/antioxidants\/\">antioxidants<\/a>. The juice in beets contain betaine, which stimulates the function of liver cells and protects the liver and bile ducts &#8212; making them ideal for a detox.
