You be the one to judge. <em>New York Magazine<\/em> is reporting from what seems to be pretty solid word that the <em>New York Times<\/em> will start charging online readers for its content. That&#8217;s all well and interesting for a media hound, but there&#8217;s additional word that the announcement of this in &#8220;a matter of weeks&#8221; might coincide with the rumored <a href=\"http:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2010\/01\/04\/major-apple-announcement-coming-january-27th-devs-already-wor\/\">January 27th Apple launch<\/a>. You know, the tablet thing. We already know (or are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2009\/10\/26\/apple-tablet-rumor-roundup-nyts-speaks-of-impending-apple-slat\/\">pretty sure<\/a>) that Apple has shopped around a theoretical device to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2009\/12\/09\/analyst-noise-apple-tablet-in-march-for-1k-publishers-on-boar\/\">content providers<\/a>, including almost assuredly the<em> New York Times<\/em>, so it makes &#8220;sense.&#8221; Still, we aren&#8217;t putting solid money down on a single thing until Steve Jobs pulls this device out of a largish pocket of his and shows it to our face.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2010\/01\/17\/new-york-times-to-begin-charging-for-access-something-somethi\/\">New York Times to begin charging for access&#8230; something something, Apple Tablet<\/a> originally appeared on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.engadget.com\">Engadget<\/a> on Sun, 17 Jan 2010 16:10:00 EST.
