\"thomekonerko.jpg\"MLB.com reports: <\/strong>For the 15th Joyce Thome Benefit for Children’s Hospital of Illinois in Peoria, Andrea Thome decided to bring a few special guests — White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko and Phillies manager Charlie Manuel.<\/p>\n

“There are not too many things that will get past me, put it that way,” said former Sox slugger Jim Thome.<\/p>\n

“For them to take the time and come in like this, it’s humbling. It means a lot.<\/p>\n

“You play with guys and it’s a really cool situation. It tears you up a little bit when I found out they were coming. It was a neat thing.”<\/p>\n

The event, held Saturday, is a tribute to Jim’s mother Joyce Thome, mother who lost her battle with lung cancer in January 2005. <\/span><\/p>\n
