\nWe knew Audi<\/a> had its eyes on the Mini<\/a> with the imminent arrival of the A1 premium hatchback<\/a>, but we didn’t know just how closely they’d be following (or besting) the formula until Audi released a few more details on its new compact hatch.<\/p>\n

According to the project’s exterior designer Jurgen Loffler, the Audi A1 – earmarked for release next month ahead of its anticipated Geneva Motor Show<\/a> debut – will be available in “a variety of colors, regardless of the body color of the car.” Now that’s taking the fight to the Mini, which can be ordered with a roof painted white, black, or the same color as the body, not to mention the host of roof graphics the Cooper available. <\/p>\n

While Alfa Romeo<\/a> doesn’t offer such an option on its Mini-rivaling MiTo<\/a> sport-hatch, Citroen<\/a> notably does with its DS3<\/a>. That’s to say nothing of similar retro touches on the Skoda<\/a> Fabia<\/a> and Toyota FJ Cruiser<\/a>. Looks like the Mini’s trademark white roof won’t be alone for long.
