Mariska Hargitay — best known to Law & Order<\/em> fans as SVU’s<\/em> tough-as-nails Olivia Benson — steps off the mean streets of crime TV for a cover story on the pages of the February issue of More Magazine<\/a><\/em>, arriving on newsstands Jan. 26th.<\/p>\n

The cover girl — who recently recovered from suffering a collapsed lung after a work-related injury — chats about the late night shakeup at home network NBC, financial woes, and her late mother, sex symbol Jayne Mansfield.<\/p>\n

Mariska On The Hollywood Pressure To Be Beautiful:<\/strong> \u201cI think I\u2019m a very attractive person, but I don\u2019t put myself in the realm of the beauty. That\u2019s not where I get my esteem. I\u2019m a size 8, and I feel proud of that, because it\u2019s healthy. I\u2019ve never felt compelled to be a skinny actress,”<\/em> Mariska reveals. \u201cA guy at ABC told me to change my name and get a nose job. I said, \u2018You get a nose job.’”<\/em><\/p>\n

Mariska Remembers Mom Jayne Mansfield:<\/strong> \u201cI can never compete, so I don\u2019t try. It\u2019s mega \u00fcber, it\u2019s legendary, it\u2019s iconic. Being a sex symbol is not my thing; it\u2019s not where I shine.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Mariska’s Joyful Heart Foundation for Survivors of Sexual Assault:<\/em> \u201cDoing something about it takes away some of my sadness. We can get closer to cures by shining a light on [the abuse]. I liken it to what happened with AA 15 years ago, where there\u2019s not a stigma to it. We\u2019d love to see that happen to sexual assault.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Mariska On Money Woes:<\/strong> \u201cI constantly worry about money. I make a lot now, but I don\u2019t feel that way, because I was poor and had no money for a lot longer than I\u2019ve had it,\u201d <\/em> she said. \u201cAs an actor, if this show ends next year, then what? As an aging woman, then what? I\u2019m saving money to live on, for the future. There are not that many roles for women, and I\u2019ve been blessed with one of the great ones.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

How Did Leno’s Move From Late Night To Primetime Impact SVU’s ratings:<\/strong> \u201cIt ruined our numbers. The first four episodes, we were considerably down because nobody knew when the show was on. Finally, we\u2019re starting to find our audience again…..I hope we go back to where we belong.
