Spin-buster extraordinaire Stephen Colbert of the Colbert Report hosted University of Maryland scientist Margaret Palmer, the author of a study that says wind, solar and other renewables will provide coal-dependent communities the sort of\u00a0 jobs\u00a0 that, over the long-term, will be good for their environment and their pocket books.<\/p>\n

Her study<\/a> concludes that “mining permits are being issued despite the preponderance of scientific evidence that impacts are pervasive and irreversible and that mitigation cannot compensate for losses.”<\/p>\n
