Hi! I was posting alot on here a year and a half ago when I got my first A1c of 5.8 I dieted and lost some weight and by April of 08′ brought my A1c down to 5.6. I loosed control…was in a bit of denial and ate and drank what I liked for the past year or so….Recent A1c 5.9.<\/p>\n

Dr. Refuses to recognize "pre-diabetes" says "you either are or you’re not"…..she says I’m still "normal" (by the Unilab standards" but barely. She said if I gain 10 more pounds in the next six months she wants to do another A1c. IF I am at 6.0 she wants me on Metaformin right away…(but at 5.9 she wants to do nothing but re-test in ONE year’s time?) I have SO many questions…..<\/p>\n

1. Dr. says "normal" but seems to expect it to go over 6.0 at some point. Does it ALWAYS??? She will consider me lucky if it doesn’t. If full-blown diabetics manage to lower their A1cs through diet and exercise only….my dad’s was 12 at diagnosis and he got it down between 6-7 in a matter of months. Then wouldn’t it be logical to say that I can bring my A1c from 5.9 down to close to 5.0? and into a truly normal range?<\/p>\n

2. Which brings me to my next question\/observation…..IF people with "abnormal" A1c’s (high normal) CAN get their A1c’s into the normal range 4.0-5.5%) Then why is it a "given" by the medical profession that I WILL progress?? I’ve heard alot of people say Diabetes is a progressive disease. IF that’s so…than how are so many able to halt or even reverse its progression? Isn’t it possible to keep the A1c in the truly normal range (from the pre-D range) FOREVER???? <\/p>\n

\nI’m considered full-blown diabetic by some…I realize that I may very well be..however…I have SOME shred of hope of avoiding the medical diagnosis…and returning my A1c to a level BELOW pre-D ranges. <\/p>\n

I’ve lost 6 llbs recently and am low-carbing like crazy but have the sinking feeling it may not be enough (to avoid going into the "official" D range) and if it isn’t then what’s the point of trying so hard?? *Sigh* life is complicated.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
