The chairwoman of the International Olympic\u00a0Committee’s oversight panel says Rio de Janeiro is on track to deliver a “very good” games in 2016.<\/p>\n

Nawal El Moutawakel of Morocco — who last week was selected to head the panel — said after two days of visiting Rio she is confident the city will meet all the requirements to host a successful Olympics.<\/p>\n

Rio beat out Chicago, Tokyo and Madrid in October for the right to host the 2016 Games. <\/span><\/p>\n

The two main issues of concern are transportation and safety.<\/p>\n

El Moutawakel said Tuesday she was impressed with Rio’s proposals on transportation, involving rapid transit bus lines and extending the\u00a0city’s metro system.<\/p>\n

She said the IOC is confident Brazil’s government will do what’s necessary to ensure the safety of athletes and visitors.<\/p>\n
