{"id":207524,"date":"2010-01-21T07:33:32","date_gmt":"2010-01-21T12:33:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/greenenergyreporter.com\/?p=5726"},"modified":"2010-01-21T07:33:32","modified_gmt":"2010-01-21T12:33:32","slug":"wind-turbine-startup-flodesign-raises-34-5m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/207524","title":{"rendered":"Wind Turbine Startup FloDesign Raises $34.5M"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.greenenergyreporter.com\/wp-content\/themes\/v1\/img\/cat\/funding.png\" width=\"8\" height=\"8\" alt=\"\" title=\"Funding\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.greenenergyreporter.com\/wp-content\/themes\/v1\/img\/cat\/wind.png\" width=\"8\" height=\"8\" alt=\"\" title=\"Wind\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/greenenergyreporter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/Picture-13.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-5728\" title=\"Picture 1\" src=\"http:\/\/greenenergyreporter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/Picture-13.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"246\" height=\"86\" \/><\/a>FloDesign Wind Turbine, a manufacturer of\u00a0high efficiency wind turbines that use technology initially developed by the aerospace industry, has closed a $34.5 million Series B funding round led by returning investor Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield and Byers.<span id=\"more-5726\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>New investors in this second round include a unit of Goldman Sachs, as well as cleantech-focused venture capital funds\u00a0Technology Partners and VantagePoint Venture Partners.<\/p>\n<p>The Wilbraham, Mass.-based company was also recently awarded an $8.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy\u2019s Advanced Research Projects Agency \u2013 Energy (ARPA\u2010E) <a href=\"http:\/\/greenenergyreporter.com\/2009\/12\/doe-announces-100-million-funding-opportunity\/\" >program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>FloDesign plans to use the cash it raised from its investors and the money it secured from the government to scale production as it transitions from a research and development company into a\u00a0full-scale manufacturing company.<\/p>\n<p>To oversee this growth, FloDesign has hired Vestas executive Lars Andersen as its new CEO. He replaces company founder Stanley Kowalski, who stays on as a vice president. At Vestas Andersen was president of the Danish wind turbine manufacturer&#8217;s Chinese subsidiary. He officially started work at FloDesign on January 4th.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/greenenergyreporter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/FloDesignWindTurbinePressRelease.pdf\">In a prepared statement<\/a> Andersen said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I am very pleased with the prominent venture investors who are backing this company.
