{"id":208024,"date":"2010-01-21T10:05:23","date_gmt":"2010-01-21T15:05:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/greenenergyreporter.com\/?p=5732"},"modified":"2010-01-21T10:05:23","modified_gmt":"2010-01-21T15:05:23","slug":"france-says-it-will-have-a-revised-carbon-tax-bill-by-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/208024","title":{"rendered":"France Says it Will Have a Revised Carbon Tax Bill by Summer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.greenenergyreporter.com\/wp-content\/themes\/v1\/img\/cat\/policy.png\" width=\"8\" height=\"8\" alt=\"\" title=\"Policy\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/greenenergyreporter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/photo_1263985231027-1-0.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-5733\" title=\"photo_1263985231027-1-0\" src=\"http:\/\/greenenergyreporter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/photo_1263985231027-1-0.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"172\" height=\"117\" \/><\/a>France&#8217;s quest to become one of the first G7, industrialized countries to tax carbon <a href=\"http:\/\/greenenergyreporter.com\/2009\/12\/french-government-scramble-to-rescue-carbon-tax\/#more-5281\" >hit a roadblock<\/a> last month when the country&#8217;s Constitutional Court ruled against the landmark tax for being too easy on polluters.<\/p>\n<p>The court said the law&#8217;s numerous loopholes benefiting carbon-dependent industries rendered it ineffective.<span id=\"more-5732\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, the French government said it planned to submit a revised version of its carbon tax legislation to parliament on July 1st.<\/p>\n<p>The major change in the law would be the  extension of the tax to 1,000 highly polluting industrial sites, including  power stations, oil refineries and cement works, <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/BT-CO-20100120-708147.html?mod=WSJ_World_MIDDLEHeadlinesEurope\" >notes Dow Jones<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>What doesn&#8217;t change are some of the loopholes benefiting energy and carbon-dependent industries and the tax rate, which stays put at 17 euros ($24.38) per ton of carbon-dioxide emissions. The new bill will include the input of  businesses and environmentalists.<\/p>\n<p>The Medef, France&#8217;s leading business lobby, has called on the government to postpone implementation of the tax to 2011.<\/p>\n<p>On a parallel track, aware that the carbon tax could hurt the competitiveness of French businesses, the French government is also seeking to level the playing field by lobbying for a European Union-wide carbon tax on imports entering the EU, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.france24.com\/en\/20100120-france-prepares-fresh-carbon-tax-plans\" >reports the AFP<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sweden, Denmark and Finland have implemented carbon taxes of their own.
