{"id":209653,"date":"2010-01-21T15:38:26","date_gmt":"2010-01-21T20:38:26","guid":{"rendered":"Gizmodo-5454008"},"modified":"2010-01-21T15:38:26","modified_gmt":"2010-01-21T20:38:26","slug":"nexus-one-multitouch-available-now-floodgates-open-for-hackers-android","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/209653","title":{"rendered":"Nexus One Multitouch Available Now; Floodgates Open for Hackers [Android]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cache.gawker.com\/assets\/images\/4\/2010\/01\/500x_500x_500x_500x_googlenexusgallery23_01.jpg\" class=\"left image500\" width=\"500\" \/>For every Android phone, the hacking process comes in waves: it&#8217;s tinkered with, then rooted, then <a href=\"http:\/\/gizmodo.com\/5341915\/android-hacking-for-the-masses\">flashed<\/a> with totally new ROMs. At under a month old, the <a class=\"autolink\" title=\"Click here to read more posts tagged #nexusone\" href=\"http:\/\/gizmodo.com\/tag\/nexusone\/\">Nexus One<\/a>&#8216;s landed its first native multitouch hack, and soon, much, much more.<\/p>\n<p>Virtuoso Android hacker Cyanogen, who maintains the definitive custom Android ROM for the G1 (among others) just <a href=\"http:\/\/forum.xda-developers.com\/showthread.php?t=621441\">posted<\/a> an installable version of the native Android browser with multitouch enabled. (If the ADB install instructions don&#8217;t make sense to you, just read <a href=\"http:\/\/androidcommunity.com\/forums\/f4\/how-to-install-apps-using-adb-4482\/\">this<\/a>&mdash;they&#8217;re not as complicated they looks.) This is big news! But not nearly as big as what&#8217;s coming next, probably within a matter of days. <a href=\"http:\/\/forum.xda-developers.com\/showthread.php?t=613812\">Says Cyanogen<\/a>, echoing the sentiments of other Nexus One developers:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I won&#8217;t be releasing a full ROM until Google drops the 2.1 source code into AOSP.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The AOSP is the Android Open Source Project, which Google has been slow to update, and which will give modders the information and code they need to issue a <em>full<\/em> Nexus One overhaul, including multitouch for all the stock apps. The Nexus One has already been rooted, so Google&#8217;s tardiness is the only thing standing in the way. And, uh, guess what!<br \/>\n<a rel=\"lytebox\" href=\"http:\/\/cache.gawker.com\/assets\/images\/4\/2010\/01\/screencap_2010-01-21_at_3.22.13_pm.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cache.gawker.com\/assets\/images\/4\/2010\/01\/500x_screencap_2010-01-21_at_3.22.13_pm.jpg\" class=\"left image500\" width=\"500\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nGoogle&#8217;s been making <a class=\"autolink\" title=\"Click here to read more posts tagged #android21\" href=\"http:\/\/gizmodo.com\/tag\/android21\/\">Android 2.1<\/a> code available <a href=\"http:\/\/github.com\/android\">all morning<\/a>, so the first custom ROMs worth downloading could be here by this weekend. As is, the Nexus One is a spectacular phone. But man, just <em>imagine<\/em> what&#8217;ll happen when modders can open the hood on its software.
