{"id":212696,"date":"2010-01-22T05:33:00","date_gmt":"2010-01-22T10:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/techdirt.com\/articles\/20100120\/2326407852.shtml"},"modified":"2010-01-22T05:33:00","modified_gmt":"2010-01-22T10:33:00","slug":"yet-another-study-shows-txting-improves-kids-spelling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/212696","title":{"rendered":"Yet Another Study Shows Txting Improves Kids&#8217; Spelling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While it still seems like the common belief is that &#8220;txt spk&#8221; and other sorts of abbreviated elements of the English language <a href=\"http:\/\/www.techdirt.com\/articles\/20090318\/0321244168.shtml\">harm<\/a> kids&#8217; ability to write properly, we&#8217;ve seen  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.techdirt.com\/articles\/20060731\/1938242.shtml\">study<\/a> after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.techdirt.com\/blog\/wireless\/articles\/20041223\/1427218.shtml\">study<\/a> after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.techdirt.com\/articles\/20051031\/1836235.shtml\">study<\/a> after <a href=\"http:\/\/techdirt.com\/articles\/20080916\/1957542289.shtml\">study<\/a> after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.techdirt.com\/articles\/20090224\/0128203880.shtml\">study<\/a> after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.techdirt.com\/articles\/20090904\/0344536106.shtml\">study<\/a> has found exactly the opposite.  They&#8217;ve found that most kids <i>can<\/i> tell the difference, and do understand what&#8217;s proper and what&#8217;s not.  On top of that, heavy texters tend to be better spellers, because they&#8217;re much more used to writing &#8212; even if they tend to abbreviate the language when communicating via technology.<\/p>\n<p>So it almost seems superfluous to mention that <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/uk_news\/education\/8468351.stm\" >yet <i>another<\/i> one of these studies has come out<\/a> and it, too, has found that those who regularly use txt spk have very strong literacy skills.
