{"id":217193,"date":"2009-12-16T05:25:34","date_gmt":"2009-12-16T10:25:34","guid":{"rendered":"tag:feeds2.feedburner.com:\/\/37fc8f07f8aeb101c84884d50c3dd6a1"},"modified":"2009-12-16T05:25:34","modified_gmt":"2009-12-16T10:25:34","slug":"why-do-cats-hiss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/217193","title":{"rendered":"Why Do Cats Hiss?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cats will hiss (it is generally thought) for one of two reasons, either they feel threatened or they are feeling aggressive or it may be a combination of the two.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.blurtit.com\/var\/question\/q\/q3\/q33\/q332\/q3325\/q332574_28783_49_4918504_d034983d2d.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by\/2.0\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.blurtit.com\/css\/common\/cc.png\" style=\"vertical-align:text-bottom;width:16px;height:16px;border:0;\" title=\"Creative Commons License\"\/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/98894271@N00\/\" >TheLawleys<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Often hissing will simply be a way of telling another cat or human etc that the cat is present and is not going to be pushed around.&nbsp;&nbsp;It will often hiss to just register its status and thus try to deter any further activity or aggression from the human or cat to whom the hiss has been directed.<\/p>\n<p>If a cat does hiss at you it is important to avert your gaze from it.&nbsp;&nbsp;If you continue to stare or look at it then it will interpret this as a sign of aggression and continue to hiss and this may escalate into a fully fledged &#8216;cat attack&#8217;.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By looking away you are acknowledging that it has signalled either fear or anger and you are sending it a message that you do not mean any aggression towards it, so hopefully it should stop hissing.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/feeds.feedburner.com\/~r\/Blurtit\/~4\/d7lM25Qgpik\" height=\"1\" width=\"1\"\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cats will hiss (it is generally thought) for one of two reasons, either they feel threatened or they are feeling aggressive or it may be a combination of the two.
