{"id":217197,"date":"2009-12-11T06:55:37","date_gmt":"2009-12-11T11:55:37","guid":{"rendered":"tag:feeds2.feedburner.com:\/\/9d16f35d6b7c212e19878d61fb8f93f6"},"modified":"2009-12-11T06:55:37","modified_gmt":"2009-12-11T11:55:37","slug":"how-can-flies-walk-on-ceilings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/217197","title":{"rendered":"How Can Flies Walk On Ceilings?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is something intensely irritating about watching a fly walking when completely &#8216;upside down&#8217;.&nbsp;&nbsp;This ability, coupled with their ability to fly makes them so difficult to kill !<\/p>\n<div class=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.blurtit.com\/var\/question\/q\/q3\/q39\/q396\/q3962\/q396258_17969_425_3677384272_38907e3781.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by\/2.0\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.blurtit.com\/css\/common\/cc.png\" style=\"vertical-align:text-bottom;width:16px;height:16px;border:0;\" title=\"Creative Commons License\"\/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/7539598@N04\/\" >Thomas Shahan<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>However, they can walk upside down because they have six legs which are attached to the thorax or middle part of their bodies.&nbsp;&nbsp;Each of these legs has a foot.&nbsp;&nbsp;On the underside of each foot are two tiny claws (which totals twelve for each fly) and under each claw there is a pad, full of tiny hairs, which is called the pulvillus.<\/p>\n<p>These twelve pads are covered in a sticky-glue like liquid.&nbsp;&nbsp;When the fly walks on the ceiling, or any surface a wall etc, then the sticky stuff coming from the pads sticks to enable the fly to keep its balance (and it spreads this sticky stuff all over the surfaces on which it walks).&nbsp;&nbsp;Consequently it can walk upside down&#8230; Making it even more difficult to swat!<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/feeds.feedburner.com\/~r\/Blurtit\/~4\/k52tUT-iEnM\" height=\"1\" width=\"1\"\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is something intensely irritating about watching a fly walking when completely &#8216;upside down&#8217;.&nbsp;&nbsp;This ability, coupled with their ability to fly makes them so difficult to kill !
