{"id":217350,"date":"2010-01-20T15:40:55","date_gmt":"2010-01-20T20:40:55","guid":{"rendered":"tag:www.opensecrets.org,2010:\/news\/\/8.1322"},"modified":"2010-01-21T19:00:57","modified_gmt":"2010-01-22T00:00:57","slug":"scott-brown-a-profilic-campaign-fund-raiser-but-a-stingy-fund-giver","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/217350","title":{"rendered":"Scott Brown a Profilic Campaign Fund-Raiser, But a Stingy Fund-Giver"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>        <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"MARGIN: 0px 0px 20px 20px; WIDTH: 104px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 170px\" class=\"mt-image-right\" alt=\"scottbrown2.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/news\/scottbrown2.jpg\" width=\"126\" height=\"208\" \/>Republican Scott Brown, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/01\/21\/us\/politics\/21elect.html?hp\">elected Tuesday<\/a> as Massachusetts&#8217; newest U.S. senator, is notable for his prolific&nbsp;political fund-raising, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bostonherald.com\/news\/politics\/view\/20100112scott_brown_claims_13_million_in_late_senate_donations\/\">reportedly generating<\/a> millions upon millions of dollars from supporters during an abbreviated&nbsp;campaign.<\/p>\n<p>He accomplished this through online channels &#8212; something with which the GOP has struggled. <em>Politico<\/em>&#8216;s Ben Smith <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/blogs\/bensmith\/0110\/Browns_haul.html?showall\">reports<\/a> that Brown adviser Patrick Ruffini today announced his boss hauled in eight figures, proudly&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/PatrickRuffini\/status\/7994655832\">tweeting<\/a>: &#8220;$12 million, is I believe, the biggest online fundraising event for any statewide candidate, R or D, ever.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>We won&#8217;t know what the official,&nbsp;final, end-of-story&nbsp;campaign finance numbers are in this race until mid-February, after post-election <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fec.gov\/\">Federal Election Commission<\/a> filings are released.<\/p>\n<p>But we do know this:&nbsp;Brown himself has&nbsp;made just one donation to a federal political candidate in the past 20 years&nbsp;&#8212; $250&nbsp;in 2001&nbsp;to Republican congressional candidate Jo Ann Sprague, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/\">Center for Responsive Politics<\/a> analysis indicates.<\/p>\n<p>That may be because Brown will enter the U.S. Senate as perhaps one of its&nbsp;poorer members &#8212;&nbsp;relatively speaking, at least.<\/p>\n<p>A Massachusetts <a href=\"http:\/\/www.massinc.org\/fileadmin\/CommonWealth\/Disclosure_forms\/Senate\/Brown_Scott_P.pdf\">personal financial disclosure form<\/a> Brown filed in 2008 indicates his annual income fell between $60,000 and $100,000, and he reported owning interests in time shares and property valued in the low six figures. He also reported owing up to $100,000 on his home mortgage.<\/p>\n<p>The average net worth of a U.S. senator, meanwhile, is $13.98 million, based on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/pfds\/index.php\">Center&#8217;s analysis<\/a> of 2008 personal financial disclosures of Senate members.&nbsp;And more than a fifth of U.S. senators in 2008 reported&nbsp;personal wealth of at least $3.5 million.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republican Scott Brown, elected Tuesday as Massachusetts&#8217; newest U.S. senator, is notable for his prolific&nbsp;political fund-raising, reportedly generating millions upon millions of dollars from supporters during an abbreviated&nbsp;campaign.
