A few researchers have suggested that acrylamide <span>could <\/span>increase the human risk of cancer, which resulted in predictable <a href=\"http:\/\/www.consumerfreedom.com\/news_detail.cfm\/h\/1954-cspi-chemical-scares-plenty-infuriating\">activist-driven scaremongering<\/a> about potato chips and coffee a few years back. All led, of course, by the ever-shrill <a href=\"http:\/\/activistcash.com\/organization_overview.cfm\/o\/13-center-for-science-in-the-public-interest\">Center for Science in the Public Interest<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But as the <i>Bee&rsquo;s<\/i> quiz rightly notes, the average person could ingest <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sacbee.com\/273\/story\/2430559.html\">six or seven times <i>more<\/i> acrylamide<\/a> than he <span>or she <\/span>already typically does without much (if any) harm. Or, as we calculated previously, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.consumerfreedom.com\/news_detail.cfm\/h\/3062-acrylamide-facts-fresh-from-the-oven\">a person would have to eat 182 pounds of french fries<\/a> every day for a lifetime in order to be in any real danger. In other words, it&rsquo;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.consumerfreedom.com\/article_detail.cfm\/a\/176-the-dose-makes-the-poison\">the dose that makes the poison<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For people who consume balanced diets, acrylamide isn&rsquo;t likely to be a problem at all.
