\n<\/span>On Sunday, January 10, 2010,
\nat around 12:20 p.m. a Van Nuys community member called the Los Angeles
\nPolice Department\u2019s Communication Center to report that she saw man who
\nresembled a suspect whom she had seen on the television news the night
\nbefore.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

LAPD
\nOfficers went to the location where the person reporting last saw the
\nsuspect, a Laundromat in the 6800 block of Lennox Avenue.\u00a0\u00a0 Officers
\nfound the man in the laundry mat dressed only in boxer shorts; his
\nclothes were in a washing machine.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

Officers
\nwere able to link a Black Ford Explorer parked in the parking lot to
\nthe suspect.\u00a0 The vehicle had been taken in a carjacking the previous
\nday in West Valley Area.\u00a0 He was taken into custody without incident.<\/span><\/p>\n

The
\nsuspect has been identified as Tyreese Basey, a 31-year-old male Black
\nwhose last known address was in Los Angeles.\u00a0 Basey is being booked
\ninto Van Nuys jail for various charges including Robbery and Carjacking.<\/span><\/p>\n

This
\nwas an extraordinary example of the community, the media, and the LAPD
\nworking together to take a violent and dangerous offender off the
\nstreets of Los Angeles.<\/span>
<\/br><\/span><\/p>\n

\nLos Angeles Police Department is asking for the public\u2019s help in
\nidentifying a suspect who victimized a number of innocent people and
\nput the entire community at risk early this morning.<\/p>\n

\nAt around 5:15 a.m., a suspect attempted to steal a car that was parked
\non Calhoun Street.\u00a0 He failed in that attempt.\u00a0 Thirty minutes later at
\naround 5:45 a.m. the same suspect carjacked a vehicle by simulating to
\na victim that he had a weapon in his waistband.\u00a0 This occurred at a
\nnearby donut shop located in the 13300 block of Victory Boulevard. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\nThirty-five minutes later at around 6:20 a.m. the suspect had a
\nrollover single-car traffic accident at Sepulveda Boulevard and
\nSkirball Center Drive; the car collided with a tree causing the airbag
\nto deploy.\u00a0 The suspect got out of the vehicle by climbing through the
\nsunroof. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/img>At
\naround 6:40 a.m., the suspect entered a residence in the 3300 block of
\nRedrose Drive and demanded car keys from a 90-year-old couple.\u00a0 The
\nelderly couple managed to push the suspect away and lock the door.\u00a0
\nThen at around 6:45 a.m., the suspect was seen in a rear yard at a
\nhouse a short distance away.\u00a0 That home owner chased the suspect away.<\/p>\n

<\/br>
\nOne hour and thirty minutes after that, and one-half mile away, at
\nabout 8:15 a.m., the same suspect stole a black Eddie Bauer version of
\na Ford Explorer, license plate 4WVP668.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n

\nThe suspect is described as a male black, black hair in dreadlocks or
\ncorn rows, 6\u2019-6\u20191\u201d in height, weighing 170-180 pounds, 30-35 years old.
\nHe was last seen wearing black pants, tan shirt and has a beard. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\nInvestigators believe that the suspect may have sustained some injuries from the rollover collision or airbag deployment.<\/p>\n

\nInvestigators believe that because the one-man crime spree was so
\nunusual, there may have been some precipitating incident or personal
\ncrisis.\u00a0 Captain Egan said, \u201cHe was not just a criminal, but a
\ndesperate and reckless criminal.\u201d\u00a0 Egan added, \u201cIf you witnessed
\nanything unusual this morning or know of someone fitting this
\ndescription with unexplained injuries, please come forward.\u201d<\/p>\n
