{"id":219235,"date":"2010-01-23T00:02:10","date_gmt":"2010-01-23T05:02:10","guid":{"rendered":"tag:ronkayela.com,2010:\/\/1.890"},"modified":"2010-01-23T00:12:28","modified_gmt":"2010-01-23T05:12:28","slug":"welcome-to-the-monkey-house-mr-krekorian","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/219235","title":{"rendered":"Welcome to the Monkey House, Mr. Krekorian"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>        <object width=\"425\" height=\"344\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/HSnu6wc4Qt0&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/HSnu6wc4Qt0&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"425\" height=\"344\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p>(REPUBLISHED FROM OURLA.ORG)<\/p>\n<p>Paul Krekorian got a lesson Friday in how City Hall works when his<br \/>\ncolleagues on the City Council rejected his committee report for the<br \/>\nCity Clerk to come back on Tuesday with options on how the newly-formed<br \/>\nWestwood Neighborhood Council could hold an election by July.<\/p>\n<p>As chairman of the Education and Neighborhoods Committee, Krekorian proposed <a href=\"http:\/\/clkrep.lacity.org\/onlinedocs\/2009\/09-1115_rpt_en_1-21-10.pdf\" >a series of steps <\/a><br \/>\nfor the City Clerk to take in response to widespread criticism of the<br \/>\nprocess for holding NC elections between March and July, including<br \/>\ngiving each council the power to decide on term limits and use<br \/>\nvolunteer poll workers.<\/p>\n<p>The only controversy was over<br \/>\nKrekorian&#8217;s recommendation the the City Clerk &#8220;report on the<br \/>\nfeasibility of including the newly-certified Westwood Neighborhood<br \/>\nCouncil in the City Clerk&#8217;s upcoming 2010 Neighborhood Election cycle,<br \/>\nand on a process by which new certified neighborhood councils will be<br \/>\nincluded in the City Clerk&#8217;s neighborhood election process.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Krekorian<br \/>\noffered a reasoned case on why several options should be considered<br \/>\nbecause of cost and expediency to allow for Westwood to be able to<br \/>\nelect its board in the coming months rather than wait two years for the<br \/>\nnext NC election cycle.<\/p>\n<p>Westside Councilman Paul Koretz would<br \/>\nhave none of it, insisting the City Clerk would just come back next<br \/>\nweek with reasons for &#8220;why it can&#8217;t be done.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He was backed with<br \/>\nvehemence by Richard Alarcon, whose right to hold office has been<br \/>\nquestioned by District Attorney investigators who served search<br \/>\nwarrants based on a tip that the councilman doesn&#8217;t actually live in<br \/>\nthe Valley district he represents. <\/p>\n<p>So the issue was whether<br \/>\nthe City Clerk&#8217;s office had to be ordered to do its job or whether it<br \/>\ncould be trusted to provide reasonable alternatives for Council<br \/>\nconsideration, a small point to be sure.<\/p>\n<p>The vote was 10-1<br \/>\nagainst Krekorian &#8212; a rare lack of unanimity that was in a sign that<br \/>\nthe Council&#8217;s political agenda now includes pleasing the NC movement<br \/>\nand a lesson for Krekorian that he will find himself isolated and<br \/>\nwithout support if he tries to buck the sytem when larger issues come<br \/>\nup.<\/p>\n<p> <input id=\"gwProxy\" type=\"hidden\" \/><!--Session data--><input onclick=\"jsCall();\" id=\"jsProxy\" type=\"hidden\" \/><\/p>\n<div id=\"refHTML\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(REPUBLISHED FROM OURLA.ORG) Paul Krekorian got a lesson Friday in how City Hall works when his colleagues on the City Council rejected his committee report for the City Clerk to come back on Tuesday with options on how the newly-formed Westwood Neighborhood Council could hold an election by July.
