Centrist Sen. Evan Bayh (D-Ind.) on Saturday urged President Barack Obama to call for a freeze in discretionary spending in his State of the Union address next week. <\/strong>[…] “The president could say in his State of the Union address, I’m going to include in my budget a freeze on discretionary spending, I’m drawing a line in the sand, and I’m going to use my veto pen to enforce that,” Bayh said on Bloomberg’s “Political Capital.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Yeah, screw all of the millions of lazy people who don’t have jobs and need services and health care and schools for their kids and whose wives aren’t paid millions of dollars by sitting on the board of WellPoint<\/a>. We really must tighten our belts.<\/p>\n

For example, we’re spending a record $700B on defense this year<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What about cutting some of that, Evan<\/a>?<\/p>\n

BAYH<\/strong>: No, I don’t think it’s a good idea, not at this point…First of all, you need to provide for the nation’s security regardless of your financial situation, and there’s no bigger deficit hawk in Congress than I am.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Because for the DLC-types like Evan, tax cuts and defense spending don’t add to the deficit — only programs for the unwashed masses.<\/p>\n
