{"id":224216,"date":"2010-01-24T22:01:32","date_gmt":"2010-01-25T03:01:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.personalliberty.com\/liberty\/med-students-back-advances-in-alternative-medicine\/"},"modified":"2010-01-24T22:01:32","modified_gmt":"2010-01-25T03:01:32","slug":"med-students-back-advances-in-alternative-medicine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/224216","title":{"rendered":"Med Students Back Advances In Alternative Medicine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/pictures.directnews.co.uk\/liveimages\/doctor_1961_19569127_0_0_7036894_300.jpg\" alt=\"Med students back advances in alternative medicine\" align=\"right\" class=\"post_image\">According to a large-scale national survey, most current medical students believe that knowledge of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) would greatly benefit Western doctors. <\/p>\n<p>CAM is characterized by a more individualized approach to patient care and utilizes therapies such as yoga, herbal medicine, acupuncture and massage. <\/p>\n<p>Researchers at the University of California sent a 30-question survey to more than 120 medical schools and found that 77 percent of respondents believe that patients would benefit more if their physicians had a strong understanding of CAM in addition to Western medicine. <\/p>\n<p>&quot;Even now, medical schools have the opportunity to train the next generation of medical practitioners in healthcare systems outside of conventional medicine,&quot; said study author Ryan Abbot. &quot;Core values of CAM can help students develop a more holistic and individualized approach to patient care.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Researchers also found that the further along a medical student was in school, the more likely he or she was to believe that their knowledge of CAM therapies was sufficient. <\/p>\n<p>A total of 44 academic institutions now comprise the Consortium of Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine, which attempts to advance the principles of holistic healthcare. <br \/><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"ADNFCR-1961-ID-19569127-ADNFCR\" src=\"http:\/\/feeds.directnews.co.uk\/feedtrack\/justcopyright.gif?feedid=1961&amp;itemid=19569127\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to a large-scale national survey, most current medical students believe that knowledge of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) would greatly benefit Western doctors.
