{"id":226093,"date":"2010-01-25T11:24:43","date_gmt":"2010-01-25T16:24:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.utk.edu\/tntoday\/?p=18411"},"modified":"2010-01-25T11:24:43","modified_gmt":"2010-01-25T16:24:43","slug":"noted-french-theater-professor-to-give-public-lectures-at-ut-in-february","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/226093","title":{"rendered":"Noted French Theater Professor to Give Public Lectures at UT in February"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KNOXVILLE &#8212; Patrice Pavis, an internationally recognized artist, author and scholar of drama and performance, will visit the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Feb. 1 &#8211; Feb. 19.<\/p>\n<p>Pavis recently retired as professor of theater studies at the D\u00e9partement Th\u00e9\u00e2tre at Universit\u00e9 Paris VIII and is a renowned leading expert on contemporary theater. His publications on theater semiotics, performance analysis and intercultural theater have contributed significantly to fundamental research on theater and performance practice.<\/p>\n<p>Pavis will give the following lectures, which are free and open to the public:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;Interpreting Today&#8217;s Performances,&#8221; 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1, in 1210-1211 McClung Tower;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Intercultural Performance Today,&#8221; 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, in Hodges Library auditorium;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Is There an Ideal Theater School?&#8221;, 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, in the Carousel Theater; and<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Aging in the Performing Arts,&#8221; 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, in 1210-1211 McClung Tower.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pavis also will lead a master class on &#8220;The Performance of Aging&#8221; for students and faculty of the theatre department.<\/p>\n<p>The visit is sponsored by the university&#8217;s Ready for the World intercultural and international awareness initiative, and the UT Knoxville Departments of Theatre, Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures and English.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>C O N T A C T :<\/p>\n<p>Les Essif (865-974-6375, essif@utk.edu)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KNOXVILLE &#8212; Patrice Pavis, an internationally recognized artist, author and scholar of drama and performance, will visit the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Feb. 1 &#8211; Feb. 19.
