Norton Authors among Lecturers \u2014<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>The City College of New York (CCNY) Division of Interdisciplinary Studies, in collaboration with W.W. Norton &amp; Company, will present the second installment of its successful <strong><em>\u201cBook Talk\u201d Lecture Series, February\u00a0 1 through May 10<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 The lectures, which present prestigious CUNY and Norton authors, and cover such vital topics as health, American law, transportation, globalization and nature, take place at CCNY\u2019s Center for Worker Education, seventh floor, 25 Broadway in Lower Manhattan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBook Talk continues to bring some of the best and most recognized authors in the country to the Center,\u201d said Dr. Juan Carlos Mercado, Dean of the Division of Interdisciplinary Studies. \u201cWe are delighted to have W.W. Norton &amp; Company collaborate with us on such an important lecture series.\u201d<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www1.ccny.cuny.edu\/advancement\/pr\/images\/D_Biro_2.jpg\" border=\"1\" alt=\"David Biro\" hspace=\"5\" vspace=\"8\" width=\"150\" height=\"148\" align=\"right\" \/><\/p>\n<p>CCNY Interim President Dr. Robert E. Paaswell will inaugurate the series with a lecture on \u201cCurrent Issues in Transportation Planning.\u201d Other notable speakers include Norton authors:<\/p>\n<li>David Biro, M.D., named one of New York magazine\u2019s top doctors and author of \u201cThe Language of Pain: Finding Words, Compassion,\u201d and \u201cRelief;\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Richard Conniff, a Guggenheim Fellow, frequent commentator on National Public Radio\u2019s \u201cAll Things Considered\u201d and author of \u201cSwimming with Piranhas at Feeding Time: My Life Doing Dumb Stuff with Animals;\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Jon Jeter, former Washington Post bureau chief for southern Africa and South America and author of \u201cFlat Broke in the Free Market: How Globalization Fleeced Working People;&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Fred Strebeigh, recipient of the 2009 Brodhead Teaching Prize from Yale University and author of \u201cEqual: Women Reshape American Law;\u201d and<\/li>\n<li>Jennifer Cody Epstein, adjunct professor in the School of the Arts, Columbia University, and author of \u201cPainter from Shanghai.\u201d<\/li>\n<p>\u00a0The other speakers are Dr. Lou Marinoff and Frederick Kaufman.\u00a0 Dr. Marinoff is Professor and Chair of Philosophy at CCNY, founding President of the American Philosophical Practitioners Association (APPA), on the faculty of the World Economic Forum and author of \u201cThe Middle Way.\u201d\u00a0 Mr. Kaufman is a contributing editor at Harper\u2019s magazine who teaches at the City University of New York and CUNY Graduate School of Journalism.\u00a0 He is author of \u201cA Short History of the American Stomach.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All lectures are free and open to the public.\u00a0 They are held in the Center for Worker Education auditorium, located on the seventh floor at 25 Broadway, and begin at 6:00 p.m.\u00a0 The series is sponsored by CCNY Provost Zeev Dagan and the CCNY Office of Academic Affairs.
