Mark Kirk (R) held onto a wide lead over Patrick Hughes, 47% to 8%.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.cqpolitics.com\/eyeon2010\/2010\/01\/with-eight-days-left-until.html\">CQ Politics<\/a> reports Kirk&#8217;s own internal poll shows a much closer race for the Republican nomination.<\/p>\n<p><a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.chicagotribune.com\/news_columnists_ezorn\/2010\/01\/a-bit-of-a-surprise-in-the-senate-polls-.html\">Eric Zorn<\/a>: &#8220;I would have predicted a better showing for Hoffman, who has picked up  numerous newspaper endorsements and has great anti-corruption <em>bona  fides<\/em>, and for Hughes, who is the favorite of movement  conservatives.
