Location-based social net Foursquare<\/a> has signed a deal with commuter daily Metro<\/a> in Canada that’s designed to attract more local advertising and younger readers to the paper, BusinessInsider reports<\/a>. Foursquare users in the select Canadian cites will get “tips” sent to their phone when they’re near a restaurant that appears in a Metro<\/em> review. By the end of this week, Metro’s<\/em> “Going Out” nightlife section hopes to start running ads that will offer Foursquare users discounts from local restaurants and stores. Metro<\/em> also hopes to use Foursquare to promote the print edition with an iPhone sweepstakes. Foursquare users who follow Metro<\/em> will be given a special code entering them into the sweepstakes after checking in from a spot where the print edition is available. No word on whether other Metro outlets in the U.S. will start a similar tie-in with Foursquare.\n<\/p>\n
