{"id":232347,"date":"2010-01-26T15:32:07","date_gmt":"2010-01-26T20:32:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/globalvoicesonline.org\/?p=119747"},"modified":"2010-01-26T15:32:07","modified_gmt":"2010-01-26T20:32:07","slug":"jordan-tweeps-celebrate-their-country","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/232347","title":{"rendered":"Jordan: Tweeps Celebrate their Country"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In an initiative that was adopted by tweeps from other Arab countries, Jordanian users of micro-blogging site <em>Twitter<\/em> created and maintained a hashtag that celebrates the top 50 things they love about their country. <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#search?q=%23Top50Jo\">#Top50Jo <\/a> soon attracted tens, if not hundreds, of participants from across Jordan, eager to express their big or small Jordanian love in 140 characters or less.<\/p>\n<p>Farah from <a href=\"http:\/\/jordanian-observations.blogspot.com\/2010\/01\/top50jo.html\"><em>Observations of a Jordanian<\/em><\/a> listed some of her favourite things on her blog:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8211; How everyone you meet knows someone you know<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; How everyone has an &#8220;uncle&#8221; who&#39;s high up in the government<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; That our Queen has YouTube and Twitter. and actually contributed her #Top50Jo<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; That you can complain to the mayor @MayorOfAmman on Twitter<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; How everyone gets together in happy as well as sad occasions<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Naseem Tarawnah over at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.black-iris.com\/2010\/01\/24\/top-50-reasons-living-in-jordan-rocks-a-tweet-digest\/\"><em>The Black Iris<\/em><\/a> linked up to #Top50Jo on his blog as &#8220;a mental break from all the cynicism and the daily realities that can make you forget how great Jordan really is,&#8221; while Roba Al-Assi from <a href=\"http:\/\/andfaraway.net\/blog\/2010\/01\/24\/why-i-love-my-brother-aka-gamers-rock\/\"><em>And Far Away<\/em><\/a> borrowed some from other tweeps and classified them into different categories:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8211; The Jordanian National Anthem at the end of broadcast day on Jordan TV<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; The serene call for prayers resonating across Amman.. and definitely the weather..second to none!<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.answers.com\/Mansaf\">Mansaf<\/a> \ud83d\ude42 That\u2019s simple<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Watching the excitement of kids on first day of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.answers.com\/topic\/sacrifice-day\">Eid<\/a>, dressed up, in streets, sizing the other, hustling over gifts &#038; play plans.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Even Queen Rania took part in the tweet-a-thon, <a href=\"http:\/\/twitpic.com\/zl5zy\">posting her picture with Abu Ahmad<\/a>, an Ammani symbol who used to sell peanuts in downtown Amman and who has just recently passed away. To take the initiative even further, <a href=\"http:\/\/twtvite.com\/d3fkgo\">two Jordanian tweeps are planning to film what people love about Jordan<\/a>: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;We have started #Top50Jo. Now let&#39;s document it on Video.
