British Government Warned That Iraq War Would Be Illegal <\/a>
Before the invasion of Iraq, British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw\u2019s top legal adviser warned that the use of force was \u201ccontrary to international law\u201d and \u201cwould amount to the crime of aggression.\u201d According to testimony in the U.K.\u2018s Iraq inquiry, Straw allegedly rejected the advice as \u201cdogmatic,\u201d saying \u201cinternational law was pretty vague.\u201d The secretary would go on to seek and win a more favorable second opinion from the country\u2019s attorney general just days before invasion.  \u2014PZS BBC: Asked by the inquiry about Mr Straw\u2019s analysis of the legal position regarding the invasion of Iraq, Sir Michael told the inquiry: \u201cObviously there are some areas of international law that can be quite uncertain.
