A Nazi<\/a> death camp survivor slams Israel<\/a> over its occupation of Palestine<\/a>, drawing an analogy between the Israeli army\u2019s indignations and the conduct of Nazi<\/a> forces during World War II.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Israelis tried to dehumanize the Palestinians, just like the Nazis tried to dehumanize me,\u201d said Dr Hajo Meyer, 86, who survived 10 months in Auschwitz Nazi<\/a> concentration camp in Poland.<\/p>\n

\u201cNobody should dehumanize any other and those who try to dehumanize another are not human,\u201d he said at the beginning of his lecture in Scotland.<\/p>\n

The octogenarian Holocaust<\/a> survivor, who embarked on a 10-day tour of the UK<\/a> and Ireland<\/a>, called Israel<\/a> \u201cthe world champion in pretending to be civilized and cultured.\u201d<\/p>\n

The comments by Meyer have provoked a fresh outcry of \u201canti-Semitism\u201d by hardline Jewish lobby groups.<\/p>\n

However, Meyer, the Dutch-based author of three books on Judaism, the Holocaust<\/a> and Zionism, dismissed \u201canti-Semite\u201d labels hurled against him.<\/p>\n

\u201cFormerly an anti-Semite was somebody who hated Jews because they were Jews and had a Jewish soul. But nowadays an anti-Semite is somebody who is hated by Jews,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

A spokesman for the International Jewish Anti-Zionist<\/a> Network, of which Dr. Meyer is a member of, backed the remarks.<\/p>\n

\u201cHajo knows that Israel<\/a> has a long history of abusing the tragic history of the Holocaust<\/a> in order to suppress legitimate criticism of its own crimes,\u201d said the spokesman.<\/p>\n
