\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police Commissioner Robert Saltzman said he attended the Muslim Forum over the weekend with Police Chief Charlie Beck.\u00a0 He said it was his first opportunity to attend the Forum and found it to be well attended and very diverse.\u00a0
<\/br>\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police Chief Charlie Beck thanked the Department for their team effort in response to the recent rains and flooding.\u00a0 He praised the collaboration between various City entities and added the Department would continue collaborating with its City brethren. <\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Executive Director\u2019s report, dated January 14, 2010, relative to the Police Commission Distinguished Service Medal, was approved.\u00a0 Executive Richard Tefank presented the award to Police Commission Vice President Andrea Sheridan Ordin, for her more than four years of service on the Board and her numerous contributions to the Department.<\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Department\u2019s verbal presentation and discussion relative to the Los Angeles Police Cadet program was given by Assistant Chief Earl Paysinger and Senior Management Analyst Natalie Torrez. Chief Paysinger said the program has made tremendous strides which has put the program on the forefront of youth programs.\u00a0 Ms. Torrez informed the Board the Mayor\u2019s office has insured the program and the participants now have new uniforms and new patches which display the new \u201cCadet\u201d name.\u00a0 Efforts are also underway to remove the old \u201cExplorer\u201d name and logo from all the 21 area police stations and a new website design is in the works.\u00a0 The very first Cadet recruit class has begun with the very first graduation scheduled for April 24, 2010. <\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Department\u2019s verbal presentation and discussion regarding training and policies relative to the Department\u2019s Robbery Homicide Division, Specialized Investigation Section was continued. <\/p>\n
\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Department\u2019s report, dated January 21, 2010, relative to the fiscal year 2010\/11 proposed budget, as given by Police Administrator Gerald Chaleff, was approved and transmitted to the Mayor\u2019s office.\u00a0 Mr. Chaleff said the budget for next year would be approximately $1.19 Billion with 95% of that going to employee salaries.\u00a0 He said the Department is very thin on equipment, including vehicles, but said it can maintain itself for a short period of time.\u00a0 With civilian employees, the Department looses approximately 285 employees a year.\u00a0 Though allocated 26 new positions for Criminalists, the Department will only fill 10. The Department is also developing \u201ctriggers\u201d to inform Commanding Officers when their personnel is approaching the maximum number of overtime hours accumulated.\u00a0 The Department will continue to review every business practice it has and will closely monitor the budget situation.<\/p>\n
