{"id":240314,"date":"2010-01-27T21:18:51","date_gmt":"2010-01-28T02:18:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rhrealitycheck.org\/blog\/2010\/01\/27\/cbs-cancel-broadcast-sexism-womens-group-launches-video-campaign"},"modified":"2010-01-27T21:20:02","modified_gmt":"2010-01-28T02:20:02","slug":"cbs-cancel-broadcast-sexism-womens-media-center-launches-video-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/240314","title":{"rendered":"CBS = Cancel Broadcast Sexism: Women&#8217;s Media Center Launches Video Campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\nThe Women&#8217;s Media Center (WMC) today launched a video campaign entitled &quot;C-B-S = Cancel Broadcast Sexism.&quot;\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\nWMC is leading a coalition of organizations in challenging CBS&#8217;s recent decision to accept an ad during the Super Bowl from Focus on the Family after years of refusing to accept ads from progressive organizations, arguing that they would not air Super Bowl ads where \u201csubstantial elements of the community (are) in\u00a0opposition to one another.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThat changed suddenly about 10 days ago when CBS made public their agreement to air the Focus on the Family ad featuring Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow and his mother Pam.\u00a0 Focus on the Family (FoF), notes WMC, is &quot;a divisive organization with a history of intolerance<br \/>\nand discrimination based on gender, sexual orientation, and religious<br \/>\nbeliefs.&quot; FoF is strenuously anti-choice (from contraception to abortion) and has been active in policies that discriminate directly against gay, lesbian, and transgender persons, as well as in the anti-marriage equality movement.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nIn the past two days, WMC alone has generated over 120,000 letters to CBS, NFL, and Super Bowl advertising executives asking that they adhere to the longstanding tradition of prohibiting controversial spots during the Super Bowl and scrap the ad. Other organizations, including the National Organization for Women, NARAL Pro-Choice America, and the Feminist Majority Foundation have generated thousands more.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nCBS, says WMC, &quot;now claims to have changed its policy on accepting advocacy ads.
