{"id":240498,"date":"2010-01-27T23:33:00","date_gmt":"2010-01-28T04:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16711557.post-650803282804196507"},"modified":"2010-01-27T23:33:32","modified_gmt":"2010-01-28T04:33:32","slug":"ibru-efcc-seals-more-properties-in-lagos-abuja","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/240498","title":{"rendered":"Ibru: EFCC Seals More Properties in Lagos, Abuja"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"float: right; margin-left: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/53911892@N00\/3837766711\/\" title=\"photo sharing\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3424\/3837766711_f7e466abc4_m.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"border: solid 2px #000000;\" \/><\/a><br \/><span style=\"font-size: 0.9em; margin-top: 0px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/53911892@N00\/3837766711\/\">Former CEO of Oceanic Bank Cecilia Ibru of Nigeria is facing scrutiny over the collapse of the financial sector inside the oil-producing West African state.<\/a><br \/>Originally uploaded by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/people\/53911892@N00\/\">Pan-African News Wire File Photos<\/a><\/span><\/div>\n<p>THURSDAY JANUARY  28, 2010.  \t   \t<\/p>\n<p>Ibru: EFCC seals more properties in Lagos , Abuja<\/p>\n<p>Nigerian Daily Triumph<\/p>\n<p>The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC) on Tuesday said it had sealed-off 17 more properties linked to the former Managing Director of Oceanic Bank Plc, Mrs Cecilia Ibru, in Abuja and Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>This information is contained in a statement signed by Femi Babafemi, Head, Media and Publicity of EFCC, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>The statement said the exercise which began on Monday, followed a freezing order issued by a Federal High Court in Lagos on all assets and property items linked to the former bank chief.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The EFCC had applied for a mareva injunction against all the assets of Mrs Ibru who is facing trial on a 25-count charge of money laundering and granting of unsecured loans running into billions of naira among others.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When the exercise resumed in Abuja and Lagos on Tuesday, a total of 12 properties were sealed in the Federal Capital City and five in Lagos .<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Those sealed in the FCT were located on Zakari Maimalari Street, Central Area, as well as Zone 3, 14th and 27th street , Games Village, \u2019\u2019 the statement said .<\/p>\n<p>The statement said that in Lagos, operatives sealed-off two houses on Sobo Arobiodu Street , Ikeja GRA, a plaza opposite Lagos State Government Secretariat, Alausa, while one was locked in Dolphin Estate, Ikoyi and another in Marina , Lagos Island.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In a related development, the anti-graft agency has filed an amended 25-count charge against Mrs Ibru .<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The fresh charges have to do with the dollar grant of N170 billion and 51-million unsecured loans to companies linked to her,\u2019\u2019 it said.<\/p>\n<p>The statement further said when her matter came up before Justice Dan Abutu of the Federal High Court Lagos on Tuesday, the ex-bank chief was absent as her lawyer told the court she was ill.<\/p>\n<p>It said the lead defence counsel , Prof. Taiwo Osipitan, apologised to the court for the absence of the accused.<\/p>\n<p>He told the court that the accused was suffering from a heart related <br \/>problem.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The lawyer further told the court that his client was on admission in an undisclosed hospital in Lagos since Jan. 24.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The trial judge has, however, adjourned further hearing in the matter till Feb. 10,\u2019\u2019 the statement added..<br clear=\"all\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"blogger-post-footer\"><img width='1' height='1' src='https:\/\/blogger.googleusercontent.com\/tracker\/16711557-650803282804196507?l=panafricannews.blogspot.com' alt='' \/><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former CEO of Oceanic Bank Cecilia Ibru of Nigeria is facing scrutiny over the collapse of the financial sector inside the oil-producing West African state.Originally uploaded by Pan-African News Wire File Photos THURSDAY JANUARY 28, 2010.
